Further details - The series 2 G4 was a development of the Series 1, the main differences mechanically being a lighter front suspensions wishbone design with the spring damper units more inclined.  Visually the big difference was the rear bodywork extended by 8 inches (200 mm) to a more sweeping tail shape with the boot lid further back from the rear bulkhead.  This detail in turn made room for an optional hardtop with a smooth round aero dynamic shape.  The hardtop was popular in competition where the car would be eligible for the Special GT category. The purchase of a G4 by experienced racer Chris Meek late in 1963 furthered the race success of the G4 to an even greater level.  The G4 was now selling well in the UK and sales were taking off in the USA through a dealer in the Boston area. The Ford 1200cc engine once available was another popular fitment into the G4 Series 2 and later a version known as the G4 1500  (see G5) made use of Cortina 1500 and 1500GT engines with the option of further tuning by Ginetta.

For 1966 the Series 2 received a new chassis design of square tube construction, making fabrication easier and the front suspension was again revised to make use of Triumph wishbones in place of Ginettas own design.  Late in Series 2 production a new bonnet was introduced with twin humps in place of a single hump to the left side for carburettor clearance with some engine configurations.
