Further details - The G12 that became known as the G12P was a special bodied G12 developed and built by an American Richard Petit. Petit was a designer at the Ford headquarters in the USA and decided to build a sports car as a project to attain his Masters degree. He was seconded to the Ford HQ in England in 1966 a few miles from the Ginetta factory and chose the G12 as the basis for his project. The Ginetta supplied rolling chassis complete with Lotus twin cam engine and Hewland transaxle was taken back to the USA. Petit with the help of his cousin and Ford clay modeller David Conley produced a superbly styled and beautifully executed sports coupe on the chassis. The project involved fifty separate mouldings and took over two years of intense after hours work to complete.
The moulds later found their way to the UK where several replica bodies have been produced since. The original G12P is now in Japan.
